The Tehran ICH Centre (Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia, under the Auspices of UNESCO) is organizing an international photography competition to promote the concept of ICH and many different ICH manifestations of West and Central Asia.
The photography competition is called “Intangible Cultural Heritage in Context.” The “context” means the situation and surroundings in which, a local community exists, works, interacts with nature and, to sum up, “lives.” Places such as villages, farms, traditional workshops, and traditional places for trade, performing arts, or special social customs are included as instances of context.
In this regard, the Tehran ICH Centre is inviting photography enthusiasts and members of local communities who are directly involved with ICH to participate in the competition. They are encouraging the participation of women and youth in particular.
While the photographers’ nationality isn’t relevant for participation, the work subject must be of ICH within the twenty-four 24 countries of the region—Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, the Kyrgyz Republic, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
Applicants are obliged to send files of their work no later than 18 February 2017. Winners will be announced by the end of February 2017 and valuable prizes will be granted to winners of competition.
